Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is an evidence based treatment that enables people to heal from symptoms and emotional distress that are a result of trauma and disturbing life experiences. This is a modality that I often integrate into psychotherapy as it is also profoundly effective for depression, anxiety, panic disorder, and other presenting concerns. EMDR has shown that the mind can heal from trauma just as quickly as the body heals from injury. When we experience trauma, the brain holds onto the memory in a different way than it holds onto other typical memories; the mind and body can then be triggered and you can continually have a trauma response. Holding onto these painful memories can negatively impact our relationships, the way we tolerate distress, and can induce depression and anxiety. EMDR allows you to find a way to recall that painful memory without the trauma response. It allows your mind to heal, to create a new belief system about yourself and the world around you, leading to a happier and more fulfilling life.

I will be happy to talk more about how we can integrate EMDR into your psychotherapy treatment.
